Insect GateGates and lure
Optical gates and a species-specific lure.
Two components do the work: an infrared gate in every corner, and a lure formulated for one target group. The housing around them is deliberately plain.
Optical gates
Each corner carries an infrared emitter facing a detector across the entry channel. An insect walking the channel interrupts the beam. The firmware timestamps the break, applies a debounce, and increments the count for that corner.
Four gates are not redundancy for its own sake. Crawling insects arrive along walls and furniture legs, and four independent entries cover approaches from any direction.
Detection thresholds are tuned per line. A German cockroach nymph and a warehouse beetle do not share a body depth.

The lure
The pull is a slow-release cartridge matched to the target. Bed bugs respond to aggregation cues. Stored-product beetles respond to aggregation pheromones and food odours. German cockroaches respond to a pheromone blend. Silverfish and firebrats have a lure formulated for that group.
The cartridge seats in the lid well, the oval visible on every unit. Rated release is twelve months at indoor temperatures. The console warns as lure health runs low. Swap the cartridge and keep everything else.
Lures are not interchangeable. Housing colour identifies the line so a technician does not have to read a label in a dark linen store.

A housing with nothing printed on it
The moulding carries no logo, text or label. Colour identifies the line. White and gold finishes are available where the unit must blend into a guest room or a gallery.
Because counts and health are read remotely, the unit is never lifted or opened during its lure year. Guests, residents and visitors have no reason to notice it, and staff have no reason to disturb it.
