Two radios, chosen to match how pest work actually happens: infrequent visits, large floorplates, and rooms that should not be entered without a reason.

Bluetooth

Every unit speaks Bluetooth Low Energy. A technician opens the app, stands in the room, and reads the unit without touching it: counts since the last visit, lure health, battery, gate health.

Commissioning is a Bluetooth job. Name the room, set the species line, join the site network. It is also how a unit that has gone quiet on the radio is recovered.

LoRaWAN

Sub-gigahertz, long range, low power. A single gateway on a hotel roof or in a mill office can hear units through floors and racking. The payload is small by design: counts, lure health, battery, a health flag.

Use a private gateway on site, or join a public network where one exists. No SIM card, no Wi-Fi password, no port in the wall.

Why not Wi-Fi in every unit?

Guest rooms cannot be relied on for network access. Food plants often isolate theirs. Basements block 2.4 GHz. A Wi-Fi radio also drains a battery quickly.

LoRaWAN was designed for meters and sensors that wake, send a short message, and sleep. An insect count is a short message. Bluetooth covers the last metre when a person is already on site.
